September Artist’s Dream Tour

by A Week In Provence on January 7, 2018

IMG_5816To whet your appetite, here is a snippet from our Artist’s Dream tour with one of the highlights, a visit to the Maeght Foundation, a private foundation housing one of the largest collections of twentieth century art in Europe. Here we experience works by the great names of modern art including Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, Fernand Leger, Georges Braque, Alberto Giacometti, Marc Chagall and Eduardo Chillida.

Painters and sculptors have collaborated with the Catalan architect Josep Sert by creating works integrated into the building and beautiful gardens: the Giacometti courtyard, one of the world’s most famous “in-situ” works, the Miró labyrinth filled with sculptures and ceramics, the mural mosaics of Chagall and Tal Coat, Braque’s pool and stained glass window, the Bury fountain.

In September the Maeght Foundation continues its mission to show international artists by welcoming Belgian artist Jan Fabre who has designed a “customised” exhibition for the Maeght Foundation. He wanted to have an exhibition that was spiritual in every sense of the word, at once dreamlike and serious but with the irony of games and a humour in the style of James Ensor. Something special to look forward to!

And from here it’s a stone’s throw to the renowned St Paul de Vence for a delicious lunch and a glass of wine or two. We relax for an hour or two exploring this medieval town with its stunning view, beautiful old houses  narrow winding streets, boutiques and galleries. And then we move onto our next attraction, but more of that later!

Our tours in June are full, but we have space in September. For details or to make a booking contact us here
